About Me and this Project

My name is Jesse Greenwald and I am an historian with an unceasing wanderlust. I was born in the Midwest but have spent much of my adult life on the West Coast. Over the last decade plus I have sought an informal education through travel while also completing a B.A. and M.A. in history at San Francisco State University. Now I am trying to utilize my education and this project is a chance for me to both get closer to the country I was born in and give something back to the field of history.

As people continue to flock to cities and rural populations decline, the small town has been all but forgotten. The goal of this project is to both peek inside small town U.S.A. and also give a voice to those who have chosen to remain in these locations. Over the next years I will travel to towns with populations under 6,000. The goal is to visit a town in all fifty states and meet with locals, learn how their stories reflect the history of their home, and share my experiences through this site. Using photos, audio, video, and my own research and writing, I will give anyone interested a chance to get to know these towns from the comfort of their home, anywhere in the world. Thank you for taking the time to explore with me, I hope you find it enlightening.
